Top 10 Electric Mobility Technology Start-ups in India

Electric mobility (e-mobility) refers to electrification in which power source in vehicles is delivered through electricity rather than fossil fuel. It is clean energy that is highly efficient, eliminates harmful gas emissions into the environment and provides diverse charging standards.

Electric mobility in India is driven primarily by a mix of traditional automotive manufacturing giants, tech-focused EV start-ups, and digital infrastructure partners rather than pure traditional automotive manufacturers. Start-up companies like Ather Energy, Tork Motors, Yulu, and Ola Electric have driven electric mobility by breaking down traditional manufacturing barriers, pioneering affordable micro-mobility, and building localized charging and tech infrastructure.

Following this, below is the list of the top 10 start-up companies in India that develop technologies for electric mobility.

Ola Electric

With the launch of Ola S1 and S1 Pro models on August 15, 2021 in India, this company has attracted consumers through a combination of high-tech positioning, low pricing, high-performance, and a masterclass in hype and digital marketing. Ola S1 Pro model achieved a top speed of 115 km/h and a certified range of up to 181 km on a single charge, shattering traditional perceptions of slow, utilitarian electric scooters.

Ather Energy

This company decided to compete with fuel-powered two-wheelers rather than building restricted low-speed vehicles for teenagers or elderly riders. To carry out this mission, the company launched its flagship model, the Ather 450X on January 28, 2020, in India offering premium features like a 7-inch touchscreen dashboard with integrated Google Maps and consistently powerful delivery through its hyper-responsive electric powertrain.

BluSmart

This company launched several all-electric mobility services and charging products in India, such as on-demand electric taxi rides emphasizing zero driver cancellations and transparent fares, scheduled pickups and drop services for major airports, long-distance electric SUV rides across cities, and superb charging infrastructure for EV owners across Delhi NCR and Bengaluru. The company was also recognized for pioneering India’s commercial electric vehicles (EV) adoption by serving the country’s largest all-electric ride-hailing mobility services.

Battery Smart

It was founded in 2019 by Pulkit Khurana and Siddharth Sikka with the vision of making clean mobility affordable, accessible, and inclusive for everyone in India. The company has achieved a leading position in India’s electric mobility sector by removing the core adoption barriers such as high upfront costs, range anxiety, and long charging time frames through an accessible battery-swapping network for electric two- and three-wheelers.

Euler Motors

Founded in 2018 in New Delhi by Saurav Kumar, the company has achieved major success in financial, manufacturing, and market share over the last three years and expanded its business from manufacturing electric three-wheelers into light commercial electric four-wheelers. The company launched products specially designed for Indian roads, capable of handling ambient temperatures and heavy commercial loads. Starting with a three-wheeled electric-vehicle (Euler HiLoad), the company provided a load-carrying capacity of 688 kg with 151 km real-world range.

Sun Mobility

With the vision of making electric vehicles affordable and convenient for mass adoption, this company provides energy infrastructure and battery swapping solutions across various segments of electric vehicles. The company has launched a second-generation, swappable battery pack (S2.1 Smart Battery) offering higher capacity (2.1 kWh) and extended range. The company has also set up charging infrastructure across the country, providing rapid swapping and open architecture interoperability.

Revolt Motors

Over the last three years, this company has achieved major milestones in electric mobility related to production, sales, and public charging networks. The company became widely popular with the launch of Revolt RV400 on August 28, 2019. This two-wheeler electric vehicle launched by Revolt Motors was the country’s first AI-enabled electric motorcycle and designed to address the key needs for daily commuters.

Bolt.Earth

This company offers a comprehensive hardware and software ecosystem for EV mobility and charging infrastructure. The company launched products such as commercial sockets (AC), DC fast chargers, charger management systems (CMS), and Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) to connect diverse charge point operators into a unified network. It has achieved a leading position in India in electric mobility through its distributed, peer-to-peer infrastructure model and IoT-enabled hardware.

Yulu

Yulu started in 2017 as a pedal-bicycle sharing start-up before shifting towards electric mobility in India. The reason for moving towards electric mobility was to address challenges related to urban traffic and air pollution. This company has launched the Yulu Miracle in February 2019 in India for daily urban commuters who are looking for an affordable and eco-friendly solution. Later this product was heavily adopted by gig workers and delivery executives.

Cell Propulsion

This company was the first to develop full-stack electric commercial vehicles and smart mobility solutions in India. It developed an integrated electric powertrain system, Battery Management System (BMS) that supports functions such as cell balancing, battery state-of-health monitoring, and regulation of operating conditions, and autonomous vehicle technology for proprietary navigation, guidance, and control software to detect an obstacle using LiDAR and cameras. The commercial electric vehicles developed by this company range from a light-weight of 1.5-tons to heavy load carrying capacity vehicles of 20-tons, which include buses and trucks.

Conclusion

Driven by rapid advancements in battery technology, smart infrastructure, local manufacturing, and strong government subsidies, India’s electric vehicle adoption rate has risen from 0.7% of sales in 2020 to 9.33% by mid-2026. This growth is creating opportunities for Indian start-ups and manufacturing companies to develop more efficient technologies related to battery management, electric powertrains, charging solutions, battery-swapping, and connected fleet management.
